The US announces an agreement to establish a ceasefire in Sudan
Antony Blinken, the US Secretary of State, has announced that the conflicting parties in Sudan have agreed to establish a ceasefire starting at midnight.
The ceasefire is set to last for 72 hours.
According to Mr. Blinken, the army commanders and the militia known as the Rapid Support Forces agreed to the ceasefire after 48 hours of negotiations.
This is the third time in recent days that a ceasefire has been declared in Sudan.
The previous ceasefires were not stable.
At least 400 people have lost their lives in the conflict between the two sides.
The command of the Rapid Support Forces has welcomed the establishment of the ceasefire in a statement.
In its statement, this command wrote, ‘We emphasize our commitment to a complete ceasefire during the period of cessation of hostilities.’
The Sudanese army has not yet commented on this matter.
