110 political and civil activists in Turkey have been detained.
Reuters news agency reported on Tuesday, 5th of Ordibehesht, citing Turkish security sources, that the police in the country have arrested 110 people on charges of having links with paramilitary groups, specifically the PKK group.
According to these sources, the prosecutor’s office issued arrest warrants for 216 individuals, all of whom are accused of providing financial and promotional support to the PKK, which the Turkish government considers a terrorist and illegal group.
At the same time, a representative close to the Kurds announced that these arrests are related to the upcoming elections in Turkey, and several politicians, lawyers, and journalists are among those detained.
According to Reuters, the operation to arrest these individuals has mainly targeted the city of Diyarbakir, in southeastern Turkey, which is the capital of the Kurdish region, but people from 21 provinces in Turkey have been targeted overall.
