Nasser Ghavami stated that the Quran does not mention the prohibition of not wearing a hijab.
The former head of the Judicial Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly said that in the Quran, the holy book of Muslims, there is no mention of the prohibition of women not observing the hijab.
Nasser Ghavami, who chaired the Judicial Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly during its sixth term, told the Nowandish website that the Quran does not mention the prohibition of not wearing a hijab.
He added that in Iran before Islam, women had a type of covering, which also depended on geography and other conditions. For example, in Rudbar, for 50 years, women’s clothing was such that one inch above their feet was visible. Overall, women’s clothing is related to time and place conditions.
Mr. Ghavami continued, as an 80-year-old cleric who completed the studies that some claim make them authorities 30 years ago, I strongly say that pressuring women not only does not make them optimistic about hijab, but also alienates Iranian women from religion.
These statements come while earlier the leader of the Islamic Republic claimed that unveiling is both religiously and politically forbidden.
