Ukraine Withdraws from World Judo Championship

Ukraine withdraws from the World Judo Championships

Ukraine is withdrawing from the World Judo Championships in Qatar. The reason for this decision is the agreement to allow Russian and Belarusian judokas to participate in the competition, albeit not under their countries’ flags.

Ukraine states that many members of the Russian team are military personnel and active in the army, and this decision contradicts the International Olympic Committee’s recommendation to exclude Russian and Belarusian athletes who have military involvement.

The International Judo Federation has stated that it will review the background of all team members. The World Judo Championships will begin next Sunday in Doha.
