Statement from Soore University students: Knife-wielding and threats will not change our beliefs
The National Student Councils have released a statement from the students of Soore University following an incident where students were threatened with a knife by a neighbor of the university. They declared that neither the knife-wielding outside the university nor the threats inside will change our beliefs. On May 9th, a video was released showing a man with a knife threatening a group of Soore University students. Some eyewitnesses reported that the small courtyard space of the Soore Art Faculty, the intense security pressure for hijab compliance, restrictions on interactions between male and female students, and the ban on smoking have forced students, against their will, to gather on the street beside the university, causing dissatisfaction among neighbors. In the statement, Soore University students asserted that they believe the politically motivated actions of the university staff, both inside and outside the university, interfere with students’ personal affairs and consider these actions as clear examples of infringing on their individual freedoms.
