The spokesperson for the Tax Affairs Organization says 8,000 gold sellers do not pay any taxes.
The Iranian Tax Affairs Organization states that out of 25,000 active gold and jewelry selling units, about 8,000 units have taxes that are effectively zero.
According to Mehr, Mehdi Movahedi Bekanazar, the spokesperson for the Iranian Tax Affairs Organization, said regarding the amount of tax paid by other gold sellers, that 4,600 business units pay between zero to 5 million tomans, and 4,680 units pay between 5 to 15 million tomans. In other words, the payment amount for 70% of the gold and jewelry industry members in the country is less than 15 million tomans.
The spokesperson for the Tax Affairs Organization stated that some gold-selling units introduce a bank account number to the buyer for receiving the transaction amount, so the buyer can pay via card-to-card transfer, essentially evading tax on their income.
He said investigations show that these gold sellers, like some doctors and lawyers, acquire card readers from other sectors such as supermarkets or street vendors and use them to benefit from lower taxes.
