Qalibaf called last year’s protesters thugs and hooligans
The Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran called last year’s protesters thugs and hooligans
On Thursday, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, at an election gathering at the tomb of Ruhollah Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic, said that last year the Zionist regime and thugs said in the streets of the country that the Islamic Republic is over. Today we say Israel is on the brink of destruction
Calling the civil protesters thugs and hooligans comes despite his promise during the protests known as ‘Women, Life, Freedom’ that the protests should end so that new governance and reforms could take place
Last November, Mr. Qalibaf, expressing hope for the end of public protests, had said it was the turn of the country’s officials to respond to the people’s insight with necessary actions to enhance efficiency and address weaknesses in the areas of economic, cultural, social, and political governance. The outcome of the protests will be the reform of the governance system
After the end of the protests, on April 19 of this year, Mr. Qalibaf harshly criticized the protesters and said they adhered to none of the principles of religious, ethical, human, or freedom culture
