Increased Presence of Hijab Monitors at Metro Stations in Tehran
Reports from social media users and several media outlets in Iran indicate an increased presence of hijab monitors at metro stations in Tehran, filming passengers with the assistance of police forces with the aim of enforcing mandatory hijab.
On Thursday, November 16, the Tehran-based Farhikhtegan newspaper reported on the situation at the Theater Metro and Vali Asr Square in Tehran, stating that right from the beginning of the intersection of Vali Asr and Jomhouri streets, a woman in a chador with a mask is present, gently reminding passersby about hijab. Beside the hijab monitor woman, a police officer is also standing.
