Improper Restoration of the Shushtar Water Structures

Yesterday, published images of the Shushtar water structures, dating back to the Achaemenid period, indicate improper restoration of this historical monument.

Hasti Poudforoush, an expert in heritage and a journalist in this field, announced that these structures have been reconstructed using black cement, which is different from the original color of the structure, in order to strengthen them.

The Shushtar water structures are a collection of historical complexes, including stairs, dams, mills, waterfalls, canals, and massive water conduits, which were built during the Achaemenid and Sassanian periods to maximize water utilization. These structures were registered in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2009.
