Angry farmers gathered in front of the European Parliament
Dozens of farmers and about twenty tractors gathered on Tuesday in front of the European Parliament in the city of Strasbourg, France, to challenge the parliamentary session.
This protest was held both to condemn the import of agricultural products that do not meet French standards and to express opposition to new genetically modified organisms.
Germain Krantz, one of the protesting farmers, told the French news agency, ‘We want to tell the European Parliament representatives to stop importing products that do not comply with the standards imposed on us. For example, antibiotics are used in Ukraine for poultry farming that are banned here in France, and this makes it impossible for us to compete.’
Marie-Paul Blair, a 43-year-old farmer, also says she earns 500 euros every two months and is therefore financially dependent on her husband.
