Record-breaking natural gas consumption in Iran
Continued cold and snowfall in most parts of Iran led to record-breaking gas consumption, prompting authorities to issue warnings for conservation.
Simultaneously, all schools in central provinces of South Khorasan and Hamadan, as well as some schools in cities in Qazvin, Gilan, Alborz, Tehran, and Ardabil provinces, were announced to be non-attendance on Thursday, February 27.
Hossein Zafari, the spokesperson of the country’s Crisis Management Organization, announced on Thursday that due to ongoing snowfall and cold weather for the next two days, all provinces are on high alert.
In the past two days, responsible officials have repeatedly warned about gas consumption management, especially in industrial centers. The continued cold weather has caused gas consumption in the country to break new records every day.
The gas supply affairs coordinator of the National Iranian Gas Company reported a new record in natural gas consumption this year, stating that gas consumption has reached over 670 million cubic meters per day.
