France fined Google 250 million euros

The competition and market authority in France announced that it has fined Google 250 million euros for violating the EU’s intellectual property laws in relation to media publishers.

This authority has stated that Google’s AI-based chatbot Bard, which has been renamed Gemini, was trained using the content of publishers and news agencies without their knowledge.

Although Google has stated that this fine is disproportionate, it emphasized that it has accepted the agreement because it is time to put this issue behind.

Currently, many media publishers and authors are demanding restrictions on data mining or automatic data collection by AI services without receiving fair compensation.
