Mohammad Ali Abtahi Targeted by Thieves

Mohammad Ali Abtahi was targeted by thieves

Amidst the rise in mobile phone theft and purse snatching in Iran, Mohammad Ali Abtahi, the former chief of staff for Mohammad Khatami, also reported an attempt by a motorcyclist to steal his mobile phone, which resulted in injuries to his eyebrow and chest.

Abtahi wrote on his Instagram page that a motorcycle carrying two neatly dressed individuals on a very new and stylish motorbike attempted to snatch his mobile phone, but he resisted. He wrote that as a result of this resistance, he suffered an eyebrow injury requiring 10 stitches and a fractured chest.

Before Mr. Abtahi, there had also been reports of mobile phone theft from several prominent figures in the arts and sports, including Ali Daei and Ahmadreza Abedzadeh, on the streets.

The high inflation and unemployment rates, which have led to an increased misery index, alongside the rising poverty line in Iran, the depreciation of the national currency, and the decline in people’s purchasing power, indicate that life is becoming more difficult for people in various provinces of Iran.
