An 80% reduction in the number of dairy production companies in Iran over two decades
The spokesperson for the Iranian Dairy Products Industries Association announced an 80% decrease in the number of dairy product manufacturing companies in the country over the past two decades.
Mohammadreza Bani Taba, the spokesperson for the Iranian Dairy Products Industries Association, told ILNA news agency on Sunday, April 8, that the number of dairy companies in Iran has dropped from over a thousand in the 2000s to around 200 companies.
He attributed the decline in the number of dairy companies to government policies and mentioned that the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad has not yet announced the guaranteed purchase price for raw milk for the year 2024.
The spokesperson for the Dairy Products Industries Association also pointed to the decrease in dairy consumption in the country, attributing it to the reduced purchasing power of the people.
FAO statistics also report very low milk and dairy product consumption in Iran. For example, the per capita consumption of milk and dairy products in Turkey last year was 35 times that of Iran.
