The President of Azerbaijan says we are closer to peace with Armenia than ever before.
The President of Azerbaijan, a few days after the return of several villages by Armenia, stated that his country is closer to peace with Armenia than ever before. Ilham Aliyev said on Tuesday, April 23, that we have now reached a common understanding of how to achieve peace.
Azerbaijani citizens living in the four returned villages had fled during the Karabakh war about three decades ago, and during this time, all four villages of Skapanara, Ayrum, Khirveli, and Kyzylhajili in the Qazakh region were uninhabited.
However, these villages are strategically very vital because they are located right on a section of the Armenia-Georgia highway, and on the other hand, the gas export pipeline from Russia to Armenia also passes close to these villages.
Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, in response to the protests, said that these villages belong to the Republic of Azerbaijan, and we do not give anything of our land to them, and the territorial integrity of our country has not been violated.
