Mahmoud Abbas: Only the United States can prevent a disaster in Rafah
Mahmoud Abbas, the President of the Palestinian Authority, called on Washington to use its influence to prevent an Israeli invasion of the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, which he described as having disastrous consequences.
The President of the Palestinian Authority, speaking on Sunday at a special session of the World Economic Forum in Saudi Arabia, stated, ‘We ask the United States to request Israel to stop the Rafah operation because America is the only country that can prevent Israel from committing this crime.’
These remarks come as Antony Blinken, the U.S. Secretary of State, is set to embark on another regional trip to Riyadh soon.
According to the U.S. State Department, Mr. Blinken will discuss ongoing efforts to establish a ceasefire in Gaza that would lead to the release of hostages with the parties involved in the talks, and he will also emphasize the importance of preventing the regional expansion of the war.
