The import tariff for iPhones has been set at 96% in case the 96% import ban is lifted.
According to the Cabinet’s resolution, considering the ban on importing smartphones with the Apple trademark, if this ban is lifted in the future by the relevant authorities, a 96% increase in its commercial profit is predicted.
It is worth mentioning that since the beginning of autumn 2022, the import of iPhone 14 and above to the country has been prohibited both commercially and by travelers. This decision has led to the higher cost of iPhone 13 due to its registration and warranty compared to the iPhone 14 and 15, making smuggling more expensive. Currently, some prefer to use older models with less money and activate their SIM card with a cheap mobile phone. They connect to the internet with a cheap mobile phone alongside the latest iPhone model to carry out their tasks.
Currently, iPhones before the 14th model are mostly refurbished or reconditioned. When an iPhone becomes defective, Apple stores worldwide take it back from the customer and provide them with a new product. After a while, when the period of supplying old mobile phones ends, the damaged phones are reconstructed and reintroduced with the RF label, meaning ‘refurbished’.
