Pourmohammadi’s Revelation of Jalili’s Double Stance in Opposing FATF
The revelation by Mostafa Pourmohammadi, a presidential election candidate, about his rival Saeed Jalili’s prevention of Iran’s joining the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) during Hassan Rouhani’s government has sparked widespread reactions.
Mr. Pourmohammadi had stated that Jalili’s opposition to FATF was because he did not want this to happen under Hassan Rouhani’s government.
Abdolkarim Hassanzadeh, a member of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, on Friday, June 22, strongly criticized Mr. Jalili, saying he must clearly explain this issue.
He emphasized in a message on the X network that holding the lives and livelihoods of millions of Iranians hostage for political advantage is something far beyond immorality and an unforgivable action.
Mr. Pourmohammadi, in the election debate on the evening of June 21, said, ‘I remember in the Supreme National Security Council in 2016, I talked extensively about the problems of FATF. He said at the end of the session that if you are in charge, we agree, but we do not accept the other gentlemen. We need to solve the core issue.’
