The American oil tanker seized by Iran last year sets sail for international waters

The American oil tanker that Iran seized last year has set off for international waters

Ship tracking data indicates that the American oil tanker Advantage Sweet, which was seized by the Islamic Republic a year ago, is moving towards international waters.

In April 2023, Iranian military vessels seized the Advantage Sweet oil tanker, which was sailing under the Marshall Islands flag, while it was passing through international waters near the Strait of Hormuz in the Sea of Oman. It was later revealed that the ship had been leased by the major American oil company Chevron.

Analysis of ship tracking data by the Associated Press shows that the tanker is now heading towards Khor Fakkan in the United Arab Emirates, although officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran have not yet confirmed the ship’s departure.

Previously, Branch 55 of the Tehran court had issued an order to seize the oil cargo of this ship, valued at over 50 million dollars.
