Iran has released a Greek-owned oil tanker that it had seized earlier this year in the Gulf of Oman.

An informed source in this regard told Reuters that the oil tanker, sailing under the flag of the Marshall Islands, was freed earlier this week after negotiations with Iranian authorities but remains in Iran’s possession.

At the time of the seizure by Iran, this ship was carrying one million barrels of Iraqi crude oil destined for Turkey.

Iranian state media had reported at the time that Iran seized this oil tanker in January in retaliation for the seizure of a ship and its oil by the United States last year.
