Animal rights activists say a beluga whale has been shot dead.
Animal rights groups announced on Wednesday that the beluga whale, whose body was recently found on the shores of Norway, was killed by gunfire.
Previously, upon the sighting of a harness and camera mounted on the whale’s back, it was suggested that the animal was trained by Russia for espionage purposes.
The two organizations, NOAH and One Whale, which fight for animal rights, filed a complaint with Norwegian police on Wednesday, calling for a criminal investigation to find those responsible for the whale’s killing.
This white whale, suspected of being connected to Moscow and spying for Russia, was named Hvaldimir and was first spotted in 2019 in a region off the far northern coast of Norway and also off the coast of Sweden.
International news agencies reported last Saturday that the whale’s body was found on the southwestern coast of Norway.
