The UN should conduct a transparent investigation into the killing of Afghans at the Iran border

The United Nations should conduct a transparent investigation into the killing of Afghans at the Iran border.

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), following conflicting reports of the death and injury of several Afghan refugees near the Saravan border in Iran, called for an investigation into the matter.

On Thursday, October 18, this mission, emphasizing the rights of migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers under international law, wrote on the social network X that UNAMA is calling for a full and transparent investigation into the alleged incident.

The human rights organization Halush reported that as a result of shooting by Iranian military forces on the evening of Sunday, October 14, more than 200 Afghan nationals were killed, and among the Afghan citizens who intended to enter Iran, only 60 to 70 survived.

On the other hand, the spokesperson’s office of the Taliban government announced on Thursday on the social network X that a high-level delegation, led by Mohammad Ibrahim Sadr, the Deputy Security Minister of the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior, will investigate this matter.
