Following the execution of Jamshid Sharmahd, the German ambassador left Iran.

The German Foreign Ministry announced on Wednesday, October 31, that the country’s ambassador in Tehran left Iranian soil following the execution of Jamshid Sharmahd, a German-Iranian citizen.

According to the German news agency, Markus Potzel, the German ambassador to Iran, has been summoned to Berlin for consultations so that the country can protest the execution of Mr. Sharmahd in the strongest terms.

The German Foreign Ministry spokesperson, stating that Iran knew it should expect immediate action, said, ‘We will see how long this situation will continue.’

The spokesperson added that the killing of a German citizen is a highly tense issue in relations with Iran, which have already reached their lowest point.

In its statement, the German Foreign Ministry expressed appreciation for the solidarity of its European partners, who also condemned the execution of Jamshid Sharmahd.

According to the German Foreign Ministry spokesperson, it is clear that this will have serious consequences for EU-Iran relations. Targeted and significant actions are being considered and are now being pursued jointly.
