The IRGC spokesperson completely denies Rafighdoost’s statements.
The deputy of public relations and spokesperson of the IRGC, in a statement, denied Mohsen Rafighdoost’s remarks made in the ‘Iran Watch Oral History’ program regarding the assassination of government opponents abroad, stating that he held no intelligence, security, or operational responsibilities, and these statements are his personal opinions.
In this interview, Mohsen Rafighdoost said that the Islamic Republic organized the assassination of General Gholamali Oveissi, Fereydoun Farrokhzad, Shapour Bakhtiar, and Shahriar Shafiq, son of Ashraf Pahlavi, and that he was in charge of some of these assassinations.
In its statement, the IRGC wrote that, as is evident from Mohsen Rafighdoost’s background and service history in the IRGC, he never had any responsibility or role in the intelligence, security, and operational matters of this organization, and his main responsibilities were in the area of logistics and support for the IRGC during the war with Iraq.
Rafighdoost’s remarks have drawn a lot of reactions in both domestic and international media, to the extent that his office also declared Rafighdoost’s statements to be invalid due to brain surgery.
