The dowry cap is reduced to 14 coins

A member of the Legal and Judicial Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly stated, referring to the amendment of the dowry law, that we aim to reduce the dowry cap from 110 coins to 14 coins.

Mohammad Hossein Mohammadi, regarding the agenda of the Legal and Judicial Commission of the Parliament, said that one of the commission’s agendas is to amend the Civil Procedure Code and the second, more important agenda is to amend the family law, especially in the dowry section.

Considering the current economic conditions and the severe fluctuations in the price of coins and gold, many women request dowry adjustments, which creates problems.

Mohammadi emphasized that we also aim to set the dowry cap at 14 coins, meaning that what we can enforce and request is 14 coins. However, the rest of the dowry is not lost; it can be claimed when there are assets available.

Previously, the dowry cap was 110 coins, and the Judicial Commission, with the opinion of experts, decided to set the cap at 14 coins, meaning 14 coins are payable on demand, and the rest will be given when the financial conditions to receive it are met.
