Netherlands Summons Iranian Ambassador

The Netherlands summoned the Iranian ambassador

The Dutch intelligence service AIVD accused the Islamic Republic in its annual report of being involved in an attempt to murder an Iranian activist in the city of Haarlem last summer.

According to the NOS network, this is the first time in recent years that Dutch authorities have publicly accused a foreign country of planning a targeted attack on their soil.

A similar incident occurred earlier in 2019, which resulted in the expulsion of two Iranian diplomats from the Netherlands.

This case concerns Siamak Tadin Tahmasbi, an anti-Islamic Republic journalist residing in Haarlem.

In June 2024, after he noticed two men climbing up the balcony of his house, he called the police, and the officers managed to arrest the two individuals.

According to the Dutch intelligence service report, these individuals were in phone conversation with a third person during the operation, and it seemed that person was remotely directing the operation.
