Waltz, Trump’s National Security Advisor, is on the verge of being dismissed
According to media reports, US President Donald Trump intends to dismiss Michael Waltz, the White House National Security Advisor, from his position.
Meanwhile, Politico reported that one of the potential candidates to replace him is Steve Whitaker, Trump’s special representative in nuclear negotiations with the Islamic Republic and peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.
Reports also indicate that Alex Wang, Waltz’s deputy, is also expected to be removed from his position.
Waltz faced widespread criticism in the White House after becoming involved in a media controversy in March.
In that incident, he inadvertently added a journalist to a chat group on the Signal app, a group where Trump’s senior national security advisors were discussing an attack on Houthi forces in Yemen.
According to government sources, Waltz was supposed to attend Trump’s campaign rally in Michigan on Tuesday, an event held to mark the 100th day of the second term of the presidency.
However, Trump instructed him to refrain from attending the program.
