Trump Doubts Ukraine and Russia Will Reach an Agreement
Donald Trump, the President of the United States, announced in a message on the social media platform X that Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, does not want a ceasefire agreement. Instead, he wants to negotiate on Thursday, May 14th, in Turkey to end the Ukraine war.
Trump, referring to this proposal, said that Ukraine should immediately accept it to determine whether reaching an agreement is possible or not.
In a significant part of his remarks, Trump warned that he doubts Ukraine will reach an agreement with Putin. ‘Meet right now,’ he urged.
He emphasized that if an agreement is not possible, the United States and Europe will have a clearer understanding of the future path.
These statements were made a day after Putin announced the end of a three-day ceasefire and proposed holding direct talks in Istanbul to fundamentally resolve the war.
Simultaneously with this proposal, the Trump administration has called for a 30-day unconditional ceasefire.
