Daughter of Dariush Mehrjui reacts to confirmation of death penalty for her parents’ murderer, stating ‘we do not request execution’

Mona Mehrjui, daughter of the renowned Iranian film director Dariush Mehrjui, reacted to the news of the confirmation of the sentences for the accused in the murder case of her parents on Instagram, writing that she and her family do not request execution and are asking for alternative punishment.

Ms. Mehrjui wrote on her Instagram account with the hashtag ‘no to execution’ that their demand is not for revenge, violence, or execution, and they are seeking alternative punishments instead of execution.

Ms. Mehrjui had previously made headlines by attending her parents’ funeral without the mandatory hijab.

Dariush Mehrjui, one of the most important directors and screenwriters of Iranian cinema, along with his wife Vahideh Mohammadi Far, was killed in their home.

Their bodies were discovered by their daughter, Mona Mehrjui.

Alborz province police announced on the morning of Sunday, October 15, 2023, that the famous director Dariush Mehrjui and his wife, writer Vahideh Mohammadi Far, were murdered in their home in Fardis, Karaj.
