Putin to Macron: Iran should have the right to develop peaceful nuclear energy

The Kremlin announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a phone call with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday, stated that Iran has the right to develop a peaceful nuclear program.

According to the Kremlin’s transcript of the call, Putin emphasized Tehran’s legal right to develop a peaceful nuclear program.

The statement mentioned that both presidents agreed that the dispute over Iran’s nuclear program and other Middle Eastern conflicts should be resolved exclusively through diplomatic means, and the two leaders will continue their discussions on this matter.

Emmanuel Macron’s office also announced that the call lasted two hours, and the French president called for a ceasefire in Ukraine and the start of negotiations to end the conflict.

This phone call, which both parties described as significant, covered the Middle East crisis, including Iran, and the Ukraine conflict. It was their first exchange of views since September 2022.
