The European Troika will activate the snapback mechanism if no nuclear agreement is reached.
The European Troika, consisting of France, the United Kingdom, and Germany, has stated that if no nuclear agreement with Iran is reached by the end of August, they are prepared to reinstate all international sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
This was mentioned in a letter signed by Johann Wadephul, the German Foreign Minister, and his French and British counterparts, which was sent to the United Nations on Tuesday, August 12.
A copy of the letter from the foreign ministers of the three European countries to the United Nations has been obtained by the Financial Times and Agence France-Presse.
According to the Financial Times report, the foreign ministers of the three European powers warned in this letter that if Iran does not take appropriate action, they will activate the automatic return of international sanctions, known as the snapback mechanism.
Based on this report, they stated in their letter that they have clearly announced that if Iran does not show willingness to achieve a diplomatic solution before the end of August 2025, or does not take advantage of the extension opportunity, the European Troika is ready to activate the snapback mechanism.
Nonetheless, these politicians emphasized that they will continue to make every effort to reach a diplomatic solution to the crisis arising from Iran’s nuclear program.
