Health Ministry Warns of Population Crisis: Only 5 Years Left to Recover

Health Ministry’s warning about the population crisis: we have only 5 years to make up for lost time

The head of the Youthful Population Center of the Ministry of Health on Sunday, referring to the fertility rate in Iran, said that Iran is unfortunately lagging behind in the youthfulness of its population and is at risk of an aging population.

Saber Jabari Farouji, speaking at the provincial Youthful Population Conference, said that currently the total fertility rate in the country is about 1.6, and this rate in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari is 1.7, but we need to reach the number 2.5 in this area within five years.

Jabari emphasized that the golden time to address this issue is 4 to 5 years, adding that after that, the task will become more difficult for the country.

He stated that one of the problems in the matter of youthful population is the delay in childbearing, and emphasized that after marriage, no more than two years should be considered for the first pregnancy attempt, and having fewer than three children is considered low fertility.
