On Thursday, September 17th, Iran’s national volleyball team secured a narrow 3-2 victory against host Philippines in their third match of the preliminary round of the 2025 World Championship, advancing to the knockout stage.

This match, held in the 20,000-seat Asia Arena in Manila, was a tense and intense scene with a full house of spectators.

In the fifth set, the Philippines was on the brink of victory with a successful defense, but a video review request by Iran’s head coach Roberto Piazza changed the point result and altered the course of the match.

Following that, Piazza’s players scored consecutive points and eventually recorded their second victory with a 3-2 win.

With two wins and one loss, Team Iran advanced to the knockout stage of the World Championship as the second team in the first group.
