Government spokesperson: We were ready to negotiate, but the U.S. representative didn’t show up
Fatemeh Mohajerani, spokesperson for Massoud Pezeshkian’s government, announced that the Islamic Republic even proposed direct negotiations with Steve Witkoff, Donald Trump’s special representative for Middle East affairs, but he did not attend the scheduled meeting.
On Wednesday, September 30, Mohajerani said that according to the Foreign Minister’s report, the Islamic Republic expressed readiness in New York to hold a meeting with the presence of the three European countries, the International Atomic Energy Agency, and Mr. Witkoff, but this proposal was not accepted by the other party or they did not attend the meetings.
She emphasized that Tehran was ready for dialogue and had shown initiative, but did not receive a response from the other side.
