Maryam-e-Moqaddas Metro Station Opened in Tehran

The Maryam Moqaddas metro station was inaugurated in Tehran.

The Maryam Moqaddas station was unveiled in Tehran. It is the twenty-fifth station on line 6 of the capital’s metro network. This station is built near the Saint Sarkis Cathedral at the intersection of Karimkhan and Ostad Nejatollahi streets in Tehran.

The construction of this station began in 2015 during the mayoralty of Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

Abdolmottaleb Mohammadi, the spokesperson for Tehran Municipality, says this initiative reflects the municipality’s attention to cultural and religious diversity in the capital.

In describing the architecture of the Maryam Moqaddas station, he added that the station’s feature is the combination of architectural art and religious identity, and its interior design and facade are inspired by church architecture and the Christian religious space.

Some Iranian media have considered the construction of this station with Christian content as a move against the West’s Iranophobia project, while some social media users deem it an extravagant expense amid Iran’s financial crisis.
