The United States has stopped providing consular services to its citizens in Iran.
The Virtual Embassy of the United States in Tehran announced on Tuesday, October 15, 2025, that as of this date, regular consular services for American citizens in Iran have been halted.
The embassy’s announcement stated that services such as the issuance of passports, reports of births abroad, and notarial services will no longer be provided.
The statement also emphasized that this decision reinforces the previous warning from the U.S. government to its citizens not to travel to Iran. Emergency services will still be conducted through the U.S. Interests Section at the Swiss Embassy in Tehran.
