Mehdi Fazaili, a member of the office of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, emphasized that the Supreme Leader does not reject the principle of negotiation. He stated that the criterion for accepting or rejecting negotiation is its purpose and framework. He added that negotiation within a smart and controlled framework to avert threats is acceptable.

Fazaili pointed out that during Ebrahim Raisi’s administration, indirect negotiations with the United States have taken place. He added that these talks were conducted amid increasing military threats from the United States and Israel, with the aim of crisis management and preventing the escalation of psychological and propaganda pressures against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

He stressed that the Supreme Leader does not reject the principle of negotiation and considers decisions about it to be subject to the interests, objectives, and the extent to which it ensures the security and benefits of the country.
