UN: Every 10 minutes, a woman is killed in the world

The United Nations reports that every 10 minutes a woman is killed worldwide.

On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the United Nations released new statistics on the killing of women globally.

The latest United Nations report shows that last year, 50,000 women and girls were killed worldwide by their partners or family members, meaning every 10 minutes a woman is killed.

Sarah Hendriks, a spokesperson for the United Nations, stated that femicide often starts with controlling behaviors, threats, and harassment, including online harassment.

The United Nations report states that there are no signs of a decrease in femicide.

Last week, the Shargh newspaper reported that in the first six months of this year, 62 women in Iran were killed by male family members.

The Iranian Sociological Association also stated that since the beginning of the year 1404, there have been 63 cases of spousal murder.

Official statistics in Iran usually do not reflect the true extent of femicide, but media reports and data from human rights organizations indicate a worrying trend.

In one of the latest cases, a 16-year-old girl was killed last week by her 27-year-old husband in Ajabshir.
