Head of Iran-China Chamber of Commerce: Government has limited merchants' internet to 20 minutes a day

The head of the Iran-China Chamber of Commerce stated that the government has limited internet access for merchants to 20 minutes per day.

Majidreza Hariri, the head of the Iran-China Chamber of Commerce, announced that the government has allowed merchants to use the internet for only 20 minutes a day, and that too under the supervision of a government observer.

He mentioned that holders of commercial cards can use the internet for up to 20 minutes daily with an observer present, which is not at all sufficient for the needs of traders.

According to Hariri, traders must first register to gain limited internet access and then, with a government observer present, they can connect for a short period. He described this process as unsatisfactory and added that this amount of internet usage is not even enough to check a few emails.

In recent weeks, the security officials of the Islamic Republic have resorted to a complete internet shutdown to prevent the transfer of news abroad and to limit the communication of protesters, an action that has now entered its third week with no sign of ending.

The widespread internet shutdown in the country continues, while according to economic activists, this situation causes millions of dollars in damage to businesses and Iran’s economy daily. These restrictions have been imposed simultaneously with a new wave of protests in Iran, which began with criticism of the economic situation, and merchants were among the first groups to join.
