The European Union approved new sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
On Thursday, January 29th, the European Union foreign ministers approved new sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran, targeting individuals and entities involved in the violent suppression of protesters and the Islamic Republic’s support for Russia.
According to Reuters, it is expected that the ministers will also reach a political agreement to list the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization in the European Union’s list, placing this group in the same category as ISIS and Al-Qaeda, which signifies a symbolic shift in Europe’s approach towards the leadership of the Islamic Republic.
These measures target about 30 agents of the Islamic Republic for the brutal suppression of anti-government protests and support of Russia’s war in Ukraine.
