Donald Trump: We are looking to replace Iranian and Russian oil with Venezuelan oil
Donald Trump, the President of the United States, announced that the U.S. is advancing a plan under which countries like India and possibly China would increase their imports of oil from Venezuela instead of buying oil from Iran and Russia. According to him, this plan simultaneously benefits the economic interests of both the U.S. and Venezuela.
On Saturday, February 11, Trump told reporters on Air Force One that India has put buying oil from Venezuela instead of Iran on its agenda, and added, ‘We have already finalized that agreement or the concept of the agreement.’
These statements come amid earlier reports that Washington had informed New Delhi it could resume purchasing oil from Venezuela to replace some of its Russian oil imports.
Meanwhile, India’s oil minister announced last week that the country is diversifying its sources of crude oil supply by reducing imports from Russia. However, as of Sunday, no official response from the Indian government or the Ministry of External Affairs has been released regarding Trump’s remarks about the finalization of the agreement.
