Britain: Iran has taken the global economy hostage by closing the Strait of Hormuz

Yvette Cooper, the British Foreign Secretary, called for a swift resolution to the Middle East conflict and accused Iran of taking the global economy hostage by blocking the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

Before the meeting of the G7 foreign ministers in France, which will be attended by Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, Cooper said, ‘We clearly state that we must witness a swift resolution to this war to restore stability to the region.’

Referring to Iran’s refusal to allow ships to pass through the strategic Strait of Hormuz, she added, ‘To be honest, Iran cannot simply take the global economy hostage because of a strait that pertains to international maritime transport routes and freedom of navigation.’
