The UN Secretary-General says the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz is a step in the right direction
Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, announced in a statement that he fully supports diplomatic efforts to find a peaceful path to end the war
He stated that the announcement by Iran’s Foreign Minister that the Strait of Hormuz will be completely open during the remaining period of the ceasefire is a step in the right direction
Guterres added in his statement that we need the full restoration of international navigation rights and freedoms in the Strait of Hormuz, and these rights must be respected by all parties
It further stated that he hopes this action, along with the ceasefire, will help build trust among the parties and strengthen the ongoing dialogues mediated by Pakistan
