Reuters news agency reports that the FIFA Secretary-General will meet with Iranian football officials in Istanbul.
Reuters, citing an informed source, reported that FIFA Secretary-General Matthias Grafström will meet with officials from the Iranian Football Federation on Saturday in Istanbul to discuss Iran’s national team’s participation in the World Cup.
The Iranian national team is scheduled to play all three of its group stage matches in the United States, but following attacks by the US and Israel on Iran, there have been uncertainties about the team’s participation in the competition.
According to Reuters, it is expected that FIFA officials will explain the situation regarding Iran’s participation in this meeting and provide messages aimed at alleviating concerns.
Mehdi Taj, the president of the Iranian Football Federation, had previously emphasized the certainty of the national team’s participation in the World Cup but also set conditions for taking part in these competitions.
