Increase Pressure on Iran's Financial Network: US Sanctions Exchange and 19 Ships

Basant: Increase pressure on Iran’s financial network; America sanctioned an exchange and 19 ships

Scott Basant, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, urged Washington’s allies to exert more pressure on financial networks and shell companies linked to Iran.

At the Counter-Terrorism Financing conference in Paris, he said European, Middle Eastern, and Asian countries should target Iran’s shadow banking, shell companies, and Tehran’s financial transfer networks.

Basant also announced that the U.S. Treasury Department is reviewing the sanctions list to make the sanctions structure more targeted and effective.

Simultaneously with these remarks, the U.S. Treasury Department sanctioned an Iranian exchange, several shell companies, and 19 ships linked to Iran’s oil and petrochemical exports.

The U.S. also added 19 ships to the sanctions list, accusing them of involvement in the transfer of Iranian oil and petrochemical products to foreign customers.
