End of the latest round of negotiations between Lebanon and Israel shows progress in the plan for the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces
The latest round of negotiations between Lebanon and Israel, mediated by the United States, concluded in Rome. An American official announced that both sides have made progress in implementing a plan that could lead to the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from parts of southern Lebanon.
These negotiations were held on Tuesday and Wednesday at the ambassadorial level at the U.S. Embassy in Rome. This was the sixth round of direct talks between Lebanon and Israel since the new round of conflicts began between Israel and Lebanese militias on March 2, coinciding with the third day of the U.S. and Israel’s war with Iran.
Based on an agreement reached with U.S. mediation on June 26, both parties have accepted the implementation of the pilot zones plan. This plan includes the disarmament of armed groups, the deployment of Lebanese army forces in the south of the country, and the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese soil.
An American official described these negotiations as constructive and positive, stating that Lebanon and Israel have agreed on the framework and guidelines for implementing this plan. According to him, the final details will be completed and enter the implementation phase in the coming days.
Lebanon and Israel have not officially commented on the results of this round of negotiations so far.
