CNN states there is no truly safe route for shipping around the Arabian Peninsula.
In a report, CNN wrote that commercial ships in the Persian Gulf and waters surrounding the Arabian Peninsula are now simultaneously facing threats in the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandeb, resulting in no maritime route being truly considered safe in this area.
According to this report, the pressure on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz has increased the importance of alternative routes and Saudi ports in the Red Sea. However, at the same time, attacks by Yemeni armed forces against Saudi interests have also threatened the security of these alternative routes.
CNN writes that developments in Hormuz and Bab al-Mandeb can no longer be assessed separately, and the maritime security situation in the region has entered a more dangerous phase.
The report also mentions attacks on vessels using the Oman route, adding that these developments show Iran is capable of extending its pressure on shipping to a broader section of the southern region’s maritime routes.
