Grossi: We do not consider the insecurity of Iran’s nuclear facilities as an obstacle for inspection
Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), stated that the agency does not view Iran’s argument that the main nuclear facilities are too dangerous for inspectors to visit due to security conditions as an obstacle to performing its supervisory duties. Grossi mentioned that Tehran has not yet provided a report on the status of these facilities to the agency, a report which, according to him, should specify any changes in the inventory of nuclear materials as well as the status of access to sites under safeguards. Recent reports from the agency also indicate that the status of approximately 440 kilograms of enriched uranium up to 60 percent remains one of the main issues of contention. The Director General also mentioned that the agency has been informed that Iran will not resume the expected cooperation with the IAEA until an agreement is reached in broader ongoing negotiations.
