Mostafa Tajzadeh: Iran will not be liberated by American bombings nor by suppressing people’s demands.
Mostafa Tajzadeh, a reformist political activist imprisoned in Evin, in a written interview with the French publication Le Point, criticized the Islamic Republic and military attacks by the US and Israel, emphasizing that the salvation of Iran lies in structural changes and the realization of the people’s right to sovereignty.
He, referring to the killing of protesters in December, called for the formation of an independent truth-finding committee, fair trials for the perpetrators, and the recognition of the right to seek justice for the families of those killed.
Tajzadeh believes that attacks by the US and Israel have not led to the overthrow of the Islamic Republic but have instead strengthened military and security forces while weakening civil society. He also said that Trump and Netanyahu made a miscalculation by expecting a popular uprising coinciding with the bombing of Iran.
This political prisoner, pointing to the reduced authority of leadership following Ali Khamenei’s death, warned of the increased role of IRGC commanders in governing the country and the risk of a military government forming. He considered an agreement between Iran and the US as likely and the least costly way to end the war.
