Bahrain and Qatar Resume Diplomatic Relations

Bahrain and Qatar resume diplomatic relations

The governments of Bahrain and Qatar agreed on Wednesday evening to resume their diplomatic relations.

Bahrain was one of four Arab countries that severed ties with Qatar in 2017, protesting Qatar’s support for certain Islamist organizations following the movements known as the Arab Spring.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt began to restore their relations with Qatar in 2021, and Bahrain, which was the last Arab country boycotting Qatar, also reached an agreement yesterday to normalize its relations with this Gulf country.
